Road America To Host Nation's Fastest Motorcycle Racers June 6-8
The AMA Suzuki Superbike Doubleheader returns to Road America, June 5-
8, 2008, to headline a huge weekend of motorcycle racing. Launched in
1976, with roots going back another 52 years, the AMA Superbike
Championship presented by Parts Unlimited is America's premier road-race
series. In three decades of competition, it has become the world's most
prestigious and successful national stage for production-based motorcycle
competition and proudly boasts 15 U.S. racers who went on to win a
combined 30 world championships.
This year's 11-event, coast-to-coast series features four distinct
classes: two for highly modified street bikes-Superbike and Formula Xtreme-and
two for near-production versions of these machines- Supersport and
Superstock. A combination of rider skill and changing technology pushes
the limits each year, with constantly improving results. Record-breaking
speeds are reached at Road America: the 4.048-mile, 14-turn track provides
the fastest average lap times on the AMA Superbike Championship circuit.
En route to victory in 2006, Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Mat Mladin and his
GSX-R1000 set a record-breaking, 2:11.90 sec., 110.34 mph run. Current
Superbike point leaders include 2007 Champion Ben Spies, Mat Mladin and
Neil Hodgson.
The SunTrust Moto-ST Series and the AMA Red Bull U.S. Rookies Cup Series
will also enhance the action-packed schedule. Moto-ST Series takes to the
track in a three-hour, team enduro format. With its large field, and
dynamic rider changes and pit stops, this series offers spectators a
uniquely intense form of cycle competition. Emerging talent is featured in
the Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup Series in which young riders, between
ages 13 and 16, compete using identical bikes so that no talent is
overlooked due to a lack of financial resources or professional backing.
Fans can experience track touring at Road America on their own motorcycles
in the Dairyland Insurance Salute to Cycles. Registration is necessary
with a fee of $25 on Saturday and $25 on Sunday plus daily ticket
admission.
Daily track admission during the AMA Suzuki Superbike Doubleheader event
is $15 on Thursday, $25 on Friday, $40 on Saturday and $40 on Sunday.
Daily tickets include paddock access and autograph sessions. Children age
12 and under are free with a paying adult. Gates open at 7 a.m. and races
run rain or shine.
Road America offers diverse racing venues, amazing viewing opportunities,
fantastic concessions and high- speed excitement to thousands of
spectators each year. Located midway between Milwaukee and Green Bay in
Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, it offers 640 grassy, rolling acres which include
the 4.048 circuit and a .94 mile combination paved and dirt track used for
karting and supermoto. For more information, please visit www.roadamerica.com
