Richie
Morris Racing Enters Three Buell 1125R Teams in MOTO-ST 8 Hours
MILWAUKEE,
Wis. (October 13, 2008) – With national championships on the line, Buell
motorcycle racers and teams from the United States and Canada are headed
for Daytona International Speedway for the final round of the Sun Trust
MOTO-ST Series on October 18 and the 25th Annual ASRA/CCS Race
of Champions, Oct. 17-19.
SunTrust
MOTO-ST 8 Hours at Daytona
This
seventh and final round of the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series will also be the
longest race of season, and will decide champions in three classes. The
SunTrust MOTO-ST series is for production based four-stroke, twin-cylinder
motorcycles ridden by teams of riders in longer-distance events which
feature pit stops and fuel strategy. The 8 Hours at Daytona race is
scheduled to start at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18.
Three
Richie Morris Racing teams will be entered aboard Buell 1125R motorcycles
in the premier Buell Motorcycle Company SuperSport (SST) class. Shawn
Higbee and Michael Barnes will ride the Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Racing
No. 8 1125R. Steve Crevier and Dave Estok will team up on the Bruce
Rossmeyer Daytona Racing No. 83 with help from Deeley H-D/Buell
Canada/Ruthless Racing, and
Dan Bilansky and Clint Brotz will share the Hal’s Harley-Davidson/Buell/Brotz
Motorsports No. 7 entry. The No.8 Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Racing team
has won twice aboard the Buell 1125R in the 2008 MOTO-ST season and is
currently in third place in the SST season standings with 174 points, 23
points behind the leading No.1 Aprilia USA/Lloyd Brothers Motorsports
team, and just seven points behind the second-place No.75 Touring Sport
Ducati squad.
“The
No.1 team has a big lead in points, but anything can happen in a long race
on a track as tough as Daytona,” said team owner Richie Morris.
“We’ll certainly be in the battle for second place in the standings,
and we hope we can end the MOTO-ST season with three Buell 1125R teams on
the podium.”
The
race for the BMW GrandSport Twins (GST) class title is much tighter, with
the James Gang/Hoban Brothers Racing/H-D/Buell of Appleton No.70 team in
second place just two points behind the Touring Sport Ducati No.70 team
and just 10 points ahead of the third-place RightsForBikers.com No.69
entry. James Gang Racing/Hoban Brothers riders Paul James, Jeff Johnson
and Walt Sipp will race a Buell XB12R at Daytona.
“If
we win the race, we win the championship,” said Paul James. “It’s
that simple. We’ve been on the podium at every event this season, and
that consistency has put us in position to win the class championship.”
The
RnR Repsol Racing No.14 Buell XB12R will be raced in the GST class at
Daytona by Rick Beggs and Rachel Sasse. The team is in sixth place for the
season. The No.66 M4 Avteq Racing Suzuki team leads the ST
class standings.
ASRA
Team Challenge
With
three GT Lights class wins in the ASRA Team Challenge series this season,
riders Paul James and Jeff Johnson have put the James Gang Racing/Hoban
Brothers Buell XB12R in the class points lead going into the final round
of the season. The James Gang team has 122 points to lead the second-place
Shakka 4 Life team by 10 points. The 2-hour endurance race is scheduled to
start at noon on Friday, Oct. 12.
ASRA
Pro Thunderbike Series
Buell
teams will be battling for a win in the final round of the ASRA Pro
Thunderbike series at Daytona Speedway on Sunday, Oct. 19. First and
second place in the season standings have already been settled, with Nate
Kern taking the title on a BMW with 223 points and Deeley H-D/Buell
Canada/Ruthless Racing rider David Estok locked in second on a Buell XB12R
with 162 points. With Bison Racing/Eagle H-D/Buell rider Walt Sipp third
with 115 points and Hal’s H-D/Buell/Hal’s Speed Shop rider Dan
Bilansky fourth with 110 points, the Buell riders will be racing for third
place on the season.
MotoSport.com

will be winner take all for a national title in MotoSport.com Championship
